About the Book:
Rick Denton lives his life on his terms. He works hard, plays hard, and answers to no one. So when his mother calls on Thanksgiving weekend begging him to come home after his stepfather has a stroke, Rick is more than a little reluctant. He’s never liked Art and resents the man’s presence in his life, despite the fact that his own father abandoned the family when Rick was just twelve. When what was supposed to be just a couple days helping out at the family bookstore turns into weeks of cashing out old ladies and running off the homeless man who keep hanging about, Rick’s attitude sours even more.

Still, slowly but surely, the little bookstore and its quirky patrons–as well as the lovely young woman who works at his side each day–work their magic on him, revealing to Rick the truth about his family, his own life, and the true meaning of Christmas. With skillful storytelling, Dan Walsh creates a Christmas story will have readers remembering every good and perfect gift of Christmas.

My Review:
Having read all his previous novels and fallen in love with Dan Walsh’s writing style, I KNEW I couldn’t pass up the chance to read this newest release from him. The added bonus? It’s a Christmas novel! I couldn’t wait to sit down with this story and open it up, get lost among the pages and feel the warmth and strength of the Christmas season. I was definitely not disappointed with this novel!

This is a story of hope, longing, forgiveness, and memories. Rick Denton is a character that is filled with a passion for moving on with his life, and content to live in the memories of his past, never knowing why his father left, or why his mother remarries to Art years later. He’s a man living his life, and staying away from his mom and step-father.

Then he gets a phone call. One that no child, no matter the relationship with their parents and step parents, should have to hear. Art had a stroke. That stroke is an event that changes the lives of not only Rick and his step-father and mother, but the lives of the readers too.

Rick is forced to put his plans on hold, and return to his mother’s home to help run her book store, The Book Nook. It’s there, among the shelves and books, and customers that Rick really takes a long look at his past memories. God is there to show him that things aren’t always what they seem. Could he have forgotten the truth? Is there more to his past than he allowed himself to remember?

Through a passionate telling of a story of redemption, hope and love, Dan Walsh has once again sucked his readers to the center of the heartwarming story. Walsh’s fans will smile, cry and smile some more as you meet each page with a renewed feeling of hope. This is high on my 5 Book worthy recommendation list and one that I recommend you get every Christmas fan and book lover out there. Perfect for a cold day by a warm, inviting fire! I can’t wait until April 2012 to add yet another fantastic Dan Walsh novel to my collection!
