My Thoughts As a long time fan of Nancy Mehl’s and just finishing Fatal Frost from the library, I couldn’t wait to dive into this beauty. I was definitely not disappointed! She is a seasoned author who knows just what to bring her readers. I loved the edge of your seat suspense in this novel. From page one, I was wrapped up in Kate’s story. She was chiseled perfectly and really came to life while I followed her on this whirl wind journey. Her journey was not an easy one, that’s for sure. In the witness protection program, she has dealt with so much in her life already. But, when she finds out she may have to retestify against the attacker that left her in the wfieitness program to begin with, the story line intensifies and I was pulled even deeper into the story. Tony Deluca’s character was also well chiseled and I loved watching him trying to get a grip on his feelings for Kate once again. The sparks between were evident and when the plot turns to a whole new surprise, those feelings might have to be on the back burner in order to save Kate, and himself,… Read more »
My Thoughts Amy Clipston has always been a favorite of mine. Her books are always tenderly written, drawing me to the heart of each story. The characters she creates always become like family, leaving me with all their emotions. The Beloved Hope Chest was no exception! The Beloved Hope Chest is the final Amish Heirloom book, making it an even more emotional book for me. I’m not ready to say goodbye yet! But, that said, this conclusion was a beautiful one. The story that captivated me instantly isn’t one I’ll soon forget. Mattie, Leroy, and all the sweet loving characters in this book, stole my heart for good. They are simple, as Amish are, yet extremely complex. The emotions they share jump off the pages, cocooning the reader in warmth and grace, and sometimes sorrow. I loved that! This book is in my top 10 reads of 2017. Amy has taken a story of grief and heartache and turned it into a story filled with longing, hope, faith and understanding. It is the 4th and final book in the series, and while I recommend readers to read all four books (they are all great!), it is easy to read this… Read more »
Cafinated Reads is hosting a different type of review today. It’s a CD review! I am so happy to talk about this today on the blog. Here’s more about the CD I’m reviewing. Story Behind The Album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df27myDpm1c Acoustic Video for Unfinished: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQFpXcvFI0A Purchase link: https://smarturl.it/OutOfTheDark.all?IQid=flyby Mandisa wrote her song “Overcomer” in 2013 to encourage her close friend Kisha, who was battling breast cancer. Mandisa really believed and prayed that God was going to heal her, but when Kisha went to be with Jesus in 2014, Mandisa’s foundation was shaken in a way she never expected. She fell into a deep pit of depression for close to 3 years, shutting out her friends, family and the rest of the world. Mandisa believes if she had kept going down that road she was on, she would not be here today…but God stepped in and lifted her out of that pit by using her close friends to communicate their love for her and God’s love for her. This album is Mandisa’s way of letting her fans into her story – it’s called ‘Out Of The Dark’ because that is exactly where God lifted her out of! You can watch her talk openly about… Read more »
On Friday, April 7,2017, my Raleigh, NC Lifeway Christian Store had a book signing for one of my top 5 Amish Fiction authors. It was Beverly Lewis! It was my second book signing in NC and I was so glad I got to go! It was a quick, fun time. She’s super sweet and really enjoys meeting with her readers. She took pictures with her fans and interacted with them with asking questions to them as well. After I asked to take a picture for the blog, she surprised me and in turn took a picture of me with her for HER Facebook page! I was really excited about that. Below are the pictures from the signing. Molly’s Thoughts: A long time fan of Ms. Blackstock, I was excited to pick up this book. I wasn’t disappointed, that was for sure! From first page to last, I was on the edge of my seat, devouring the suspense long in to the night. The rush of anticipation was strong with this book! Casey, Dylan, and all the secondary characters are complexly created and I loved that. They need to be for their roles in the plot line. Reading this story transformed me into Casey for the duration of the book. I felt all her emotions, all her fears, all her hopes as if they were my own. That was powerful! Just when I thought I knew what was coming, Ms. Blackstock twisted the story up and left me in awe, thinking about the twist. Ms. Blackstock once again created a story that is filled with messages from God, characters that are jaw droppingly awesome, and a story line that packs an incredible punch! If you love the anticipation of finding out what happens next, the heart pounding, jaw dropping need to find the clues and reach the end, then this book is for you. However, I must warn… Read more »
So, I’m super, super excited! Why, you ask? Because. I am not ashamed to admit that I shamelessly begged Ms. Cross for a review copy of her awesome sounding book, Miss Mabel’s School For Girls, the first in her Network Series. And, guess what? She agreed! *happy dancing* And, guess what else? She agreed to be featured here today with a post she wrote special for y’all. Oh, and the best part? She’s closer to me than you could imagine….I think that is just superbly awesomesauciness! *Big Grin* So, I’m turning the floor….err….page….over to Ms. Cross. Happy Reading! What Miss Mabel’s School For Girls….Isn’t By Katie Cross Like every other twelve-year-old girl, I used to count down the days until the latest romcom’s came out. Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie Holmes, Kate Winslet — love, love, love! Who doesn’t want to be swept away in the arms of love with her prince that happens to have an adorable Scottish burr and rippling pectorals? Raises hand. Me, actually. When it comes to books (and movies since now that I’m older than 13) I’ll pass on the goopy romance, thanks. I like stories with reality and meat. I like girls that have heart and… Read more »
Magical Christmas Memories by Gina Ardito I grew up with a mother of Polish descent, so there were always lots of bad ethnic jokes and the perfect excuse for every screw-up (“My Polish is showing.”) in our household. But we also had some wonderful traditions—like at Christmas. For us, Christmas Eve was the most important holiday of the year. In my story, “The Gift of the Magic,” featured in the Christmas anthology, Mistletoe and Magic, I managed to cover a lot of the holiday traditions so important to my mother’s ancestral heritage. There were a lot, though, I didn’t get to include. So, come back the house on Long Island in the 1970s where I grew up, and share some traditional Polish Yuletide cheer. Don’t worry that you weren’t invited: according to Polish custom, surprise guests are considered good luck for Christmas. We’ll have to enter through the back door, though, because the dining room table has taken over the living room to accommodate all the guests, making opening the front door impossible. The pink-and-silver artificial tree is in one corner—decorated—but no presents sit beneath it yet. Dad’s already got the television set to Channel 11’s “Yule Log.” It’s a… Read more »
