Book Review: Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy

Book Review: Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy

My Thoughts: As a caretake of my father, who just was released told he was now cancer free, I wanted to grab Julie Murphy’s novel and devour it. And I did. I read it in half a day. I read it in two sittings. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. I wanted something that would move me emotional, make me laugh, make angry and make me feel like I was part of the story. This definitely did all that. Alice. Bless her, I wanted to reach out to her, make her become real so I could hug her. I have not gone through cancer personally, but I went through the emotional pulls, the what-ifs, the let’s-do-this-before-it’s-too-late aspects of a cancer stricken family member. But, Alice. Oh sweet Alice she was so emotionally torn and I felt it all as if I was going through it. And poor Harvey……watching Alice from a far with Luke, loving her through it all, no matter what. That’s the kind of guy Alice needed and I loved watching Harvey with her! Luke…….and even Celeste……they made me so angry! I wanted to shout at them and ban them from the book! But, as… Read more »

Book Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Book Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

My Thoughts: Oh. My. Lord. Give me a minute here, will you? Thanks. *reflecting* Tahereh Mafi just became my newest favorite-est author ever. This series……well, this start to this series, is by far, the most epic, and one that is on my favorite forever list! In fact, I loved this book so much, that because I had checked this particular copy out from the library, I’ve already gone and ordered a copy off Amazon to keep on my shelf! This is definitely worth the purchase!  Juliette is a chick I didn’t think I’d love. In all honesty, I thought she was a little insane in the beginning. I mean, come on. She kept crossing out her thoughts! Say what you mean, chick! But, as the story progressed, Adam came in, and then the fun began! I loved following Juliette and Adam and finding that the story really picked up pace and kept me turning the pages long into the night.  Ms. Mafi is amazing like that. I’m just finding out how much I enjoy reading Dystopian novels, and the fact that this is a Young Adult Dystopian, makes it even more incredible. This story….this story. Yea. I  felt shattered right… Read more »

Book Review: No Place Like Oz by Danielle Paige

Book Review: No Place Like Oz by Danielle Paige

My Thoughts: Holy Munchkins, Dorothy! I loved this book. Not just a little bit. Like, it’s the best prequel. Ever. No two ways about it, this is by far, my absolute favorite novella ever written. I’m a big re-telling fan, but most of Alice In Wonderland and those types of books. But, Wizard Of Oz is one of my favorite all time movies, so, I wanted to try out Ms. Paige’s work. I pre-ordered Dorothy Must Die like ages ago, and can’t wait for the release. But, I  was curious about the whole series so when I saw that there was a prequel I grabbed it. I didn’t want it to end!  Ms. Paige did a magnificent job of creating this story. Those that have watched Wizard Of Oz, know that there is a sequel to it called Return To Oz, starring Fairuza Balk. Reading Ms. Paige’s No Place Like Oz, was like watching a movie of both those combined. There were details to the book that was like reading movie 1, and there were details to the book that was like reading movie 2. But, along the way, Ms. Paige added laughable moments, witty characters that you wouldn’t see… Read more »
