When the highway bypass around Green opens with much fanfare, downtown dries up faster than cement on the roadway. Businesses close and the hospital becomes a clinic. While the road is progress to some, it seems to be leading Green toward a national trend–a town that is merely a shadow of itself.

With the town going backwards, Lois Barker Craig is determined to save Green while juggling life as a new mom and owner of The Green News-Item. But can her plan rescue the town from the path it’s on? And what about Dr. Kevin and her son, Mayor Eva, Coach Chris and other familiar Green faces? How does this affect them?

Author Judy Christie

About The Author:
uthor Judy Christie loves to help busy people slow down and enjoy each day more – in her series of novels about Green, Louisiana, and her Hurry Less Worry Less nonfiction books. Judy started her writing career as the editor of The Barret Banner in elementary school and has kept a journal since she was nine (and still has all of them). She likes strolling around flea markets, walking in the park near her North Louisiana home and visiting friends and family on her vintage green Kitchen Couch. Her most recent books are Downtown Green, fifth in the Green series, and “Hurry Less Worry Less for Moms.”

My Review:
Sometimes when a series continues past book 3 or 4, things just don’t sit well anymore and it feels like the author is making an attempt to “drag” the story out. But, Judy Christie has bypassed that and created a FIFTH book that doesn’t drag or bore the reader! I’ve read the other books in Ms. Christie’s Green series and this one, well, this one is my favorite of them all! I think it’s because the plot line reminds me a little of the movie Cars :-).

There’s a new bypass that’s diverting the traffic from the small town of Green. The folks of Green are worried about the effect that this will have on the town (see…..Cars movie????). Things happen to the little town….small changes here and there, luring people away, instead of to the quaint small town. It becomes a change that Lois, wife and new mom, didn’t want to see happen. But, she can also see the convenience of the bypass, as it does help to save time….

But, what happens when an offer is made to REALLY change the town? A buy-out offer from someone that Lois wouldn’t ever sell to comes to Green and tries to reek havoc by making that offer. Lois and Chris think maybe it’s time to throw in towel and call it quits in the little town of Green. That is until one small suggestion, one that people wouldn’t have normally thought of in a small American town like Green, is made and Lois begins to think that maybe, just maybe, Green can be placed back on the map.

I totally loved this book! All the great characters, the entertaining plotline and message of hope and never giving up, ring loud and true in the words of this fabulous book! Most definitely worthy of a 5 Book rating, this is a fast paced, witty read that will sweep you off your feet, and make you feel right at home in Downtown Green. You’ll become friends with the families of Green and you, as the reader, will feel the effects of the bypass and want to do what you can do to help that amazing little town, stay on that map! Great job, Ms. Christie! I am anxious to see if a 6th book will be made as I am sure that all the characters and the plot line will still be just as amazing and good as the first 5!
