Interview with the Author: Hi Ms. Carlson! Thank you for taking the time to “stop by” Book Reviews by Buuklvr81, and answering some questions for us! BL:Do you have a favorite Christmas story or book that has particularly touched your heart? MC:I’ve always been an O. Henry fan and The Gift of the Magi is a poignant Christmas tale that I’ve loved for years. In fact, it was the inspiration for one of my own Christmas novellas (All I Have to Give). O. Henry (a pseudonym) had some interesting life challenges (including doing some prison time) which might explain his unique ability to write so realistically and movingly about human behavior and problems—and yet his stories were always laced with hope. BL:You have written numerous Christmas novellas – what do you like best about writing this type of story? MC:There’s something about a Christmas story that invites “magic,” creativity and the unexpected. Because I never outline, writing is an exploratory journey for me, but it’s especially so with a Christmas tale. So I always look forward to when it’s time to write another one. Ironically I end up writing my Christmas stories right in the middle of summer—it might be… Read more »

About the Book:THE MAGICIAN’S BOOK is the story of one reader’s long, tumultuous relationship with C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia. As a child, Laura Miller read and re-read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and its sequels countless times, and wanted nothing more that to find her own way to Narnia. In her skeptical teens, a casual reference to the Chronicles’s Christian themes left her feeling betrayed and alienated from the stories she had come to know and trust. Years later, convinced that “the first book we fall in love with shapes us every bit as much as the first person we fall in love with,” Miller returns to Lewis’s classic fantasies to see what mysteries Narnia still holds for adult eyes–and is captured in an entirely new way. In her search to uncover the source of these small books’ mysterious power, Miller looks to their creator, Clive Staples Lewis. What she discovers is not the familiar, idealized image of the author, but a man who stands in stark contrast to his whimsical creation-scarred by a tragic and troubled childhood, Oxford educated, a staunch Christian, and a social conservative, armed with deep prejudices. THE MAGICIAN’S BOOK is an… Read more »

Guest Post from the Author: MORE THAN ROMANCE I always like to describe myself as a writer of love stories rather than as a writer of romance. The two terms may appear to be more or less synonymous, but I see a definite distinction between them. I believe that love is far more powerful than romance and that we can sell ourselves short as writers if we are content to write romances at the expense of telling true love stories. A great deal, of course, depends upon how those two words are defined.Romance… Read more »
A special book for a special day! Happy Thanksgiving! About the Book: After a devastating tornado ripped through High Plains, a two-year-old was found wandering all alone. Foster mother Nicki Appleton took in the little girl, her heart bursting with love and prayers. Now the storm’s aftermath has brought home the man Nicki once expected to marry, and Clay Logan claims to be a changed cowboy. But with her energy focused on a child she may not be able to keep, is there room for another kind of love in Nicki’s heart this Thanksgiving? About the Author: Nothing is more true than the old adage that God moves in mysterious ways. Born and raised in the farm country of north central Kansas, Pat enjoyed an idyllic childhood on her parent’s farm with four brothers, numerous dogs and her beloved horses for company. It was no surprise then that she became something of a tomboy. Softball, 4-H, and fishing down at the creek were some of her favorite pastimes, but nothing held her interest as much as a good book. She devoured every novel she could get her hands on. Pat attended high school in Chapman, Kansas, and left the… Read more »
