Sunday Funday: Thankful For Dessert

Sunday Funday: Thankful For Dessert

Welcome back to Sunday Funday! This edition of the Funday is what dessert or desserts are our favorites. I have two favorites but my all time absolute favorite Thanksgiving dessert growing up, and even now, in my thirties, is my grandmother’s egg custard pie. She blended the perfect amount of milk, sugar, eggs and nutmeg…..oh the perfect amount! It was the one pie that I would eat the whole thing if I could and not get sick. I asked for it at every Thanksgiving (and Christmas and just because, too!). My mom didn’t like it with the nutmeg on it but my grandma would blend it all up, and pop it in the oven then just befoe she shut the door, she’d sprinkle just a wee bit more nutmeg on top and it made it just right! Now I make it, and it’s good, but just not quite the same as hers….I think it’s because she added her love to it. To me, it’s a litte bit of Heaven on earth, and tastes like egg nog. 🙂    The Recipe 4 eggs, beaten just a touch to blend them 2/3 cup granulated sugar (I think she used more, but that’s… Read more »

Sunday Funday: Giving Thanks

Sunday Funday: Giving Thanks

Welcome back to Sunday Funday! This edition of the Funday is about what I am most thankful for as we are starting November. This post will be an emotional one for me, so please, if I sound like I’m rambling/blubbering in this post, it’s because I am probably ugly crying.  The first thing that I am most thankful for is my mother. She is no longer with us, having passed away completely unexpectedly in 2014, but I am thankful every day for the 32 years I was blessed to be her daughter. During those 32 years, she taught me about unconditional love, what it’s like to love Jesus and that books can be the most wonderful escape from the stress of the world. She taught me that a mother’s love is the best thing in the world, and that a mother can be more than a mother, she can be a best friend. She taught me that sometimes life is full of heartache, but with a little prayer and a lot of love it can be overcome. I’m thankful that God chose me to be her daughter and loved me enough to give me 32 of the best years of… Read more »

Sunday Funday: It’s The Important Things In Life

Sunday Funday: It’s The Important Things In Life

Welcome back to Sunday Funday! This edition of the Funday is about the most important things in my life. Not people like friends and family, or books and the Bible, or my 4 furbabies. Those are already at the top of my list of importance right below our loving God. Today it’s about what else I feel is important in my life. The first of the five most important things, is my job. My job is something that I take seriously and enjoy doing it. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to help provide for my kiddos and our furbabies. I truly enjoy being a CNA and it brings me great joy to see the smile on my client’s face when I show up to take care of her. Second, my Wizard of Oz collection. I know, it’s a silly thing to be important in my life, but it is. My mama and I shared a love of the movie and eventually I fell in love with ALL things Oz, thus my collection. It started with the collector’s edition magazine and went on from there. It is our mutual love of Oz that had me starting this collection, and I… Read more »

My Memory Playlist: Mama’s Songs

My Memory Playlist: Mama’s Songs

Today I’m featuring something a little different. I’m posting my “memory playlist”. What’s a memory playlist, you ask? Well, when I’m reading books, blogging, walking or simply cleaning, I like to listen to music. I have a few playlists on my iPad/iPhone, but the one that I listen to the most is my “memory playlist” I call Mama’s Songs. Why do I call it that? Well, simply put: it’s my mama’s favorite songs.  Years ago, growing up, my mom and I used to listen to country songs together and some of them were perfect for mother’s and daughter’s so we would “dedicate” songs to each other. We loved doing that. It always let me know that my mama was my best friend and my protector and we could always depend on each other no matter what. So, my playlist consists of those songs.  My playlist also consists of all her favorite gospel songs. She loved the Gaither Vocal Band and The Statler Brothers. Those were always on HER playlists.  You may ask why I have a playlist with my mama’s favorites on it. You see, my mama passed away unexpectedly on June 10,2014. We don’t know why, other than a… Read more »
