TLC Blog Tour Review: Winter’s Awakening by Shelley Shepard Gray

TLC Blog Tour Review: Winter’s Awakening by Shelley Shepard Gray

About the Book: Joshua Graber knows his future is set. He′s expected to work at his family business, the Graber Country Store. He′s expected to marry Gretta Hershberger, who he′s been courting for several years. But when a new English family moves next door and their lovely teenage daughter, Lilly Allen, catches his eye, Joshua wonders if all the plans for his future are too set in stone. Gretta doesn′t know what′s going on with Joshua. When they argue and later stew in silence, it feels a lot like the frosty atmosphere at her home. After promising herself to never have a marriage like her parents, she wonders if perhaps another man might be a better match. A man such as Roland Schrock. He′s steady and kind and somewhat boring. If she marries him, she won′t ever have to worry about loving him and getting hurt. Meanwhile, Lilly is enamored with the Amish way of life, and especially her handsome neighbor Joshua. But despite being drawn to him, she has a secret that will only drive him away. Her family moved to Sugarcreek to hide her pregnancy from their community back home. Once she′s had the baby, they plan to… Read more »

Blog Tour: Guest Post by Jacqueline Luckett, author of Searching for Tina Turner

Blog Tour: Guest Post by Jacqueline Luckett, author of Searching for Tina Turner

Today’s special guest is Jacqueline Luckett, author of Searching for Tina Turner. Thanks so much for stopping by Book Reviews by Buuklvr81, Jacqueline! She’s going to talk a bit about what all goes into being an author….take it away, Jacqueline! Jacqueline’s Thoughts: Before attending my first workshop in 1999, the extent of my writing consisted of sales proposals and business letters (and a few stories written when I was in grammar school). Revision was part of my process. I don’t know why, but I didn’t think revision would hold true for creative writing. I’d made lots of revisions in the short stories I’d submitted for the workshop, but I thought that was because I didn’t know what I was doing.I walked into my workshop full of expectation. Truthfully, I had no idea of what it took to be a writer. I didn’t know any one who wrote or who even wanted to write. I was a reader, a wannabe writer, and in my mind every book ever written had come out perfectly the first time around. As the workshop leader, Christina Garcia (Dreaming in Cuban), led introductions, she talked about her process and her writing group that shared and critiqued… Read more »

Blog Tour Review: Searching for Tina Turner by Jacqueline Luckett

Blog Tour Review: Searching for Tina Turner by Jacqueline Luckett

About the Book:On the surface, Lena Spencer appears to have it all. She and her wealthy husband Randall have two wonderful children, and they live a life of luxury. In reality, however, Lena finds that happiness is elusive. Randall is emotionally distant, her son has developed a drug habit, and her daughter is disgusted by her mother’s “overbearing behavior.” When Randall decides that he’s had enough of marriage counseling, he offers his wife an ultimatum: “Be grateful for all I’ve done for you or leave.” Lena, realizing that money can’t solve her problems and that her husband is no longer the man she married, decides to choose the latter. About the Author:Jacqueline Luckett is a former sales representative for Xerox. After leaving the corporate world, Jacqueline took a creative writing class on a dare (from herself) and began writing short stories and poetry and never looked back. Jacqueline loves living in Oakland, but travels frequently to nurture her passion for photography and learning to cook exotic foods. She is currently hard at work on her next novel. My Review:This was an over all good book. It is very entertaining and it delves into the women’s point of view on an… Read more »
